Places to Stay - Sustainability Centre, East Meon

With our position in the heart of the South Downs National Park, The Sustainability Centre could not enjoy a more idyllic setting. The Centre is spread across 55 acres of woodland and natural chalk downland. Indeed, the sheer beauty of our surroundings is an enduring reminder of the importance of our work and goals.

We welcome families and schools; professionals and special interest groups; walkers and cyclists on the South Downs Way; children and young people; and simply anyone with an interest in what we do. To get a true flavour of The Sustainability Centre, take a day or two out and come and stay.

Tents, Tipis and Yurts

Our camping field is in a peaceful open space, surrounded by trees. Over the years we've welcomed individuals, families, group expeditions, companies and even wedding parties.

We have a main campground with a fire pit as well as private camping bays. We encourage guests to enjoy nature and the natural environment, and we hope you will find it peaceful and relaxing. We promote the values of The Sustainability Centre: we are big on recycling and have no vehicle access to the campground.

Our facilities include a straw bale building that houses solar showers and a washing up area, a compost loo, running water and extra facilities in our centre building near the cafe. We supply wood from our woodlands and charcoal from a small local producer.

Eco-Renovated Lodge

Once the home of Royal Navy trainees, Wetherdown Lodge has been completely converted and renovated from its previous life. Today it offers simple but comfortable accommodation for everyone from individuals and groups to companies looking for a team-building experience.

Wetherdown is also a model in how to use energy and cut carbon emissions. Indeed, it is probably the first place you've stayed where the heating is by biomass boiler, the warmth is retained by wool fleece insulation and your hot shower is courtesy of 'home-grown' energy.

Beech Cafe

Perhaps it's all the fresh air we get up here, and the 55 acres to explore, but we guarantee you'll work up an appetite. The Beech Cafe offers an array of delicious organic, Fair Trade, vegetarian and vegan food.

So stop by for anything from home made soup, a hearty ploughman's and chick pea and spinach curry, to banana and walnut loaf, carrot cake and flapjacks. And, of course, a wide range of delicious teas, coffees, ice creams and soft drinks throughout the day.
